New Delhi, December 2 (Daily Kiran) – Hair fall has become a common concern for everyone these days. The reasons could be stress, poor diet, weather changes or scalp dryness. In Ayurveda, this is mainly linked to increased vata dosha.
Night time is considered best for the scalp as the body is in repair mode during this time and nourishment reaches the hair roots. Therefore, massaging with oil at night is very beneficial for hair.
When massage is done properly, hair fall can be significantly reduced, and hair also becomes stronger and shinier.
Oil massage strengthens scalp follicles and improves blood circulation. This brings moisture and warmth to the scalp, provides nourishment to hair roots and also reduces stress.
Ayurveda recommends including this in the regular daily routine. Charak Samhita also states that regular head massage stabilizes both hair and mind. Night massage also promotes deeper sleep.
Coconut oil is good for cooling, sesame oil prevents hair fall, amla-bhringraj oil helps in hair growth, and neem or karela-infused oil is beneficial for fungal infections.
For massage, warm the oil slightly and massage gently in circular motions with fingertips. Do not apply too much pressure – light pressure and tapping for 5-10 minutes is sufficient. Spread the oil throughout the scalp and leave it overnight. Wash with mild shampoo the next day.
Oil massage 2-3 times a week is sufficient, but if hair is very weak or falling due to stress, it can be done daily. The effect can be further enhanced by mixing garlic, bhringraj powder, amla or fenugreek in the oil. With such regular night massage, difference starts showing in just two weeks.
