Raisen, September 2: A newborn girl was discovered abandoned in a forested area of Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, amidst thorny bushes and rainwater. Authorities believe she may have been left there for approximately four hours after birth.
On Tuesday, a shepherd grazing cattle in the village of Dungaria Khurd in the Bamhauri tehsil heard the sound of a baby crying. Following the sound, he found the infant lying in water among the thorny bushes, with no one else around. The shepherd alerted local Anganwadi workers and the police, who quickly arrived to rescue the baby.
Initially, she was taken to the Bamhauri sub-health center but was later referred to hospitals in Silwani and Raisen due to her critical condition. At the Raisen District Hospital, she was admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), where doctors are closely monitoring her.
Dr. Alok Rai, in charge of the SNCU, reported that the baby had visible injuries from the thorny bushes and was stiff from exposure to rainwater. Upon arrival at the hospital, she was weak and hungry.
Doctors estimate that the baby was born around 5 AM and was abandoned shortly thereafter. It is believed she was exposed to rainwater and insects for three to four hours.
Pritam Singh Rajput, the officer in charge of the Bamhauri police station, noted that the area where the baby was found is a dense forest inhabited by wild animals, making her abandonment extremely dangerous. Rajput stated, “Leaving a newborn in such a jungle could have been fatal. We have filed a case against unknown individuals and are inquiring in nearby villages to identify the parents.”
Police teams are conducting inquiries in the forest and surrounding villages to determine who brought the baby there and who is responsible for this act.
Meanwhile, Mamta Patel, a member of the Child Welfare Committee, visited the district hospital upon learning of the incident to gather information about the baby’s condition and treatment. Patel announced on Wednesday that the committee has initiated further action regarding the abandoned infant. She added that the baby will remain under medical supervision for the next three to four days.
