New Zealand Womens ODI Team Announced for South Africa Series, Kelly Knight Gets First Call-Up

New Delhi, March 24: The New Zealand women’s cricket team has been announced for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa. Fast bowler Kelly Knight has received her first call-up to the ODI squad. The series is set to commence on March 29.

Kelly Knight recently made her international debut in a three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe. As a member of the 2023 Under-19 T20 World Cup team, Knight’s impressive domestic performances earned her a spot in the national team. During the Super Smash 2025-26 tournament, she took 10 wickets while playing for Northern Brave, making her one of the top wicket-takers in the competition. Her strong showing in domestic cricket led to her selection in the T20 team.

In the 50-over format, Knight has also made a significant impact at the domestic level. She played a crucial role in helping the Brave secure their first Hallyburton Johnstone Shield title, taking a total of 17 wickets in the tournament and ranking as the second-highest wicket-taker. In the final, she claimed two vital wickets. Head coach Ben Sawyer welcomed the decision to include Knight in the team, stating, “Kelly has good pace and control, and her short balls consistently challenge the batsmen.”

Suzy Bates, Flora Devonshire, and Georgia Plimmer have all returned to the squad after recovering from injuries. They replace Emma Macleod, Polly Inglis, and Bella James. Knight has been included in place of Molly Penfold. New Zealand currently leads the ongoing T20 series against South Africa 3-1, with the final match scheduled for March 25. The ODI series will begin on March 29, with the second match on April 1 and the final match on April 4.

New Zealand Squad for the ODI Series:
Amelia Kerr (Captain), Suzy Bates, Flora Devonshire, Izzy Gaze, Maddie Green, Brooke Holliday, Bree Elling, Jess Kerr, Kelly Knight, Rosemary Mair, Nancy Patel, Georgia Plimmer, Izzy Sharp.
