New Delhi, June 2: Recently appointed Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General N. S. Raja Subramani and Indian Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan met with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday for a courtesy visit.
These high-ranking military appointments come at a crucial time when India is rapidly advancing its military capabilities, enhancing joint operations among the three armed forces, and strengthening self-reliant defense systems.
General N. S. Raja Subramani took charge as CDS on May 31, a position deemed vital for improving coordination among the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and for promoting joint military strategies. With over four decades of military experience, he has held significant responsibilities in various strategic areas. This meeting with the Defense Minister marks his first formal engagement since assuming the role of CDS. His priorities include military modernization, the integration of new technologies, preparation for future battlefields, progress towards joint theater commands, and promoting indigenous defense systems. Thus, this initial meeting is seen as pivotal for future strategic priorities.
Meanwhile, Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, who also took office as Navy Chief on May 31, met with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on the same day. With extensive and diverse experience in the Navy, he has played key roles in several important maritime operations and strategic appointments. He is now the 27th Chief of the Indian Navy, and this meeting with the Defense Minister is also his first official engagement in this capacity.
Commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1987, Admiral Swaminathan expressed that he assumes this responsibility with humility, pride, accountability, and gratitude. He stated that being chosen for this position by the nation’s top leadership is the greatest honor and privilege of his life. He assured that the Indian Navy will remain vigilant and prepared to protect national interests at all times.
