Neighbor Arrested for Murder in Malviya Nagar Incident

New Delhi, April 29: A man has been arrested in Begumpur village, South Delhi, on charges of murdering his neighbor. The police reported that the incident occurred following a dispute on Monday night.

According to DCP Anant Mittal of South District, 25-year-old Rakesh Kumar, also known as Kelly, hails from Bihar. He was apprehended after allegedly striking a man named Shatrughan on the neck with a wooden stick around 1 AM before fleeing the scene.

Shatrughan succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital, prompting Malviya Nagar police to take Rakesh into custody.

On Tuesday, the accused was presented in court, where he was remanded to judicial custody.

Investigations revealed that Rakesh had been drinking and had used the deceased’s mobile phone, which led to their altercation. Although the situation had been defused earlier, Rakesh later attacked Shatrughan while he was asleep.

The incident was reported to the police via a PCR call around midnight on April 27-28. Complainant Ranjit Yadav indicated that the murder took place in front of a large mosque at the T-5B slum in Begumpur.

Yadav informed the police that a fight had erupted between Shatrughan and Rakesh after they had finished work and eaten, but it was resolved by bystanders.

Around 1 AM, while Shatrughan was asleep, Rakesh returned with a wooden stick and struck him on the neck, causing panic in the area.

The injured man was taken to AIIMS hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The crime team inspected the scene and took necessary actions. A case was registered at Malviya Nagar police station based on the complainant’s statement, medical reports, and circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following this, the police initiated a search for the accused and successfully apprehended him.

Rakesh is a resident of Sohsarai village in Nalanda district, Bihar. He is illiterate and has been living in Delhi for the past 6-7 years, working in scrap collection with his brother. He was employed with a contractor at the T-5B slum in Begumpur.
