New Delhi: The Defence Ministry has announced the winners of the best marching contingents and tableaus at the Republic Day Parade 2026. Among the three armed forces, the Indian Navy’s marching contingent was selected as the best. Maharashtra’s tableau received the top honour among the states and union territories.

The parade featured participation from the three services, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and other supporting units. The Defence Ministry stated that independent judging panels evaluated the performances during the parade to decide the winners. Besides the Navy’s marching contingent being declared the best among the armed forces, the Delhi Police’s contingent was named the best in the CAPF and auxiliary forces category.

Among the states and union territories, Maharashtra secured first place for its tableau titled ‘Ganeshotsav: A Symbol of Self-Reliance’. Jammu and Kashmir was runner-up with a display highlighting its handicrafts and folk dances, while Kerala’s tableau showcasing ‘Water Metro and 100% Digital Literacy: Self-Reliant Kerala for a Self-Reliant India’ took third place.

In the central ministries and departments category, the Ministry of Culture’s tableau titled ‘Vande Mataram: The Soulful Voice of a Nation’ was adjudged the best. Special awards were also presented to the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for their tableau ‘Vande Mataram: Commemorating 150 Years’ and to a dance group for ‘Vande Mataram: India’s Eternal Echo’.

The parade also featured a ‘Popular Choice’ category, where winners were decided through online voting on the MyGov portal. According to public opinion, the Assam Regiment was voted the best marching contingent among the armed forces, while the CRPF was chosen as the top performer among the CAPF and allied forces.

Regarding the states and union territories in the popular choice category, Gujarat’s tableau titled ‘Swadeshi – Self-Reliance – Freedom Mantra: Vande Mataram’ received the highest public votes. Uttar Pradesh’s ‘Culture of Bundelkhand’ tableau ranked second, followed by Rajasthan’s ‘Golden Beauty of the Desert: Bikaner Gold Art (Usta Art)’ in third place.

For the central ministries and departments, the School Education and Literacy Department’s tableau on the ‘National Education Policy 2020: Indian School Education Towards a Developed India’ was the public favourite.
