Chandigarh, March 16 : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President Navjot Sidhu has resigned from his post after Congress president Sonia Gandhi asked the PCC presidents of the five states that went to polls to resign for reorganisation of the state bodies. In one-line tweet on Wednesday, Sidhu said, “As desired by the Congress President I have sent my resignation.” After taking over as PPCC chief on July 19 last year, Sidhu had also resigned in September 28 last year over the appointment of the DGP and Advocate General in the Channi-led government. However, he withdrew his resignation on November 6 after the Advocate General was replaced and the process started to change the DGP. Ahead of the assembly elections, Sidhu criticised the Channi government over its “inability” to control the sand mafia. He limited himself to his own constituency after Channi was announced party’s chief ministerial candidate by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Ludhiana. After the drubbing in the assembly elections, several Congress leaders blamed both Sidhu and Channi for the party’s dismal performance and advised Sidhu to take responsibility and quit. Once a CM aspirant, Sidhu lost his Amritsar (East) assembly seat to Aam Aadmi Party candidate Jeevan Jyot Kaur by a margin of 6750 votes. DB SY 1242
