Nashiks Mayor Himgouri Aher-Adke showcased cultural initiatives and invited mayors worldwide to the upcoming Kumbh Mela during a Geneva conference.

Nashik, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : Nashik’s Mayor Himgouri Aher-Adke recently presented the city’s cultural heritage and environmental initiatives at the United Nations International Mayor’s Council in Geneva. During her presentation, she extended invitations to approximately 80 mayors, around 20 diplomats, and various international representatives to attend the upcoming Kumbh Mela.

Aher-Adke described the opportunity to showcase Indian culture on an international platform as an incredible experience. She expressed pride in sharing India’s cultural traditions and environmental efforts. The mayor highlighted initiatives such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “One Tree for Every Mother” campaign and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s establishment of a Center of Excellence in Nagpur for heat prevention and cooling sustainability. She also mentioned the “Advanced Nashik” initiative led by Kumbh Mela Minister Girish Mahajan.

The mayor emphasized the promotion of cleanliness campaigns under this initiative, noting that over one lakh trees have been planted in Nashik in the past three months. She shared that international representatives were particularly interested in how the city manages the logistics for the large number of pilgrims expected at the Kumbh Mela. Aher-Adke conveyed her invitation to foreign representatives with the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which signifies that the whole world is one family, working together for mutual progress. The Kumbh Mela, held every twelve years, provides a platform for discussions on societal issues and future generations’ interests. She emphasized the importance of adopting positive ideas while discarding harmful ones to ensure a better future for upcoming generations.

In discussions with mayors from various cities, Aher-Adke noted that many cities are making strides in artificial intelligence (AI) and disaster management, while others are developing better facilities for people with disabilities. The goal is to integrate these best practices and standard operating procedures into Nashik’s development. She also mentioned plans to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish sister city relations with a city in Singapore. Additionally, several universities have expressed interest in collaborating with Nashik. Aher-Adke referred to the opening of the India center at the Geneva School of Diplomacy on October 12.

Regarding cleanliness and Kumbh Mela preparations, the mayor discussed programs related to river conservation and awareness. She highlighted opportunities for collaboration with German technology at the World Economic Forum. Aher-Adke stated that AI-based solutions are being developed to enhance the facilities for pilgrims attending the Kumbh Mela. The plans aim to advance efforts related to environmental protection, cleanliness, technology, and international cooperation.
