Mumbai, June 3: The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s largest container port, welcomed Myanmar’s President Min Aung Hlaing and his official delegation on Tuesday. The delegation included 67 high-ranking officials.
Upon arrival, JNPA Chairperson Gaurav Dayal (IAS) and heads of various port departments warmly greeted the delegation.
During the visit, the delegation received a comprehensive presentation on JNPA’s port infrastructure, operational capabilities, efforts to enhance capacity, strategic development plans, sustainability methods, and the future growth roadmap.
The presentation also emphasized the development of the Vadavan Port Project, which is considered one of India’s largest deep-draft ports and a key driver of maritime trade growth in the region.
President Min Aung Hlaing remarked that JNPA’s status as India’s number one port showcases its operational excellence and robust service capabilities. He expressed interest in advancing development efforts at the port and highlighted the delegation’s keen interest in understanding the region better, learning from JNPA’s experiences, and exploring opportunities for knowledge exchange and cooperation.
On this occasion, JNPA Chairperson Gaurav Dayal stated, “It was a pleasure to welcome President Min Aung Hlaing and his esteemed delegation to JNPA. This visit provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase India’s maritime capabilities, JNPA’s operational excellence, and our developmental initiatives, including the Vadavan Port Project. We are eager to strengthen maritime and trade cooperation between India and Myanmar and explore avenues for enhanced regional connectivity and economic collaboration.”
The delegation also toured the port area to gain firsthand insights into the port’s efficient operations, cargo handling processes, and integrated logistics ecosystem. This visit highlighted JNPA’s world-class infrastructure and its contribution to facilitating international trade.
