Gorakhpur, April 16 : Murtaza Abbasi, an accused in the attack on Gorakhnath temple and injuring three security personnel, was remanded to 14 days judicial remand by a local court here on Saturday. Murtaza was brought from Lucknow to Gorakhpur by the Anti Terror Squad of Uttar Pradesh Police amidst tight security and produced before a special court. “Murtaza was produced before the court and the ATS did not apply for the remand of the accused, he has been sent to judicial remand,” government counsel PK Dubey said. He said on the demand of the ATS Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act has been invoked against the accused. “As UAPA has been invoked against Murtaza the case will now be heard in NIA/ATS court in Lucknow,” he said. Dubey said on the directives of the court the accused has been sent to Gorakhpur jail from where he will be taken to Lucknow. Notably, Murtaza was given on remand to Anti Terror Squad of Uttar Pradesh police till Saturday. Murtaza, a resident of Civil lines in Gorakhpur, forcibly attempted to enter Gorakhnath temple on April 3 night. On being stopped he attacked the security personnel with a sharp-edged weapon injuring two PAC jawans and a civil police personnel.
