Murali Sreeshankar Celebrated Upon Returning Home with Silver Medal from 2026 Asian Games

Palakkad, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Murali Sreeshankar received a warm welcome in Palakkad after securing a silver medal in long jump at the 2026 Asian Games. The celebration included traditional drumming and the presentation of garlands to honor his achievement.

Despite facing an ankle injury, Sreeshankar jumped an impressive 8.07 meters, earning him a spot on the podium. He had a difficult moment during the finals when he slipped on the take-off board but still managed to complete his fifth attempt. This marks Sreeshankar’s second consecutive silver medal at the Asian Games.

However, he expressed frustration about the excessive slipperiness of the take-off board. Speaking to reporters, he noted, “Even without rain, the board was slippery, and many complaints had been made prior. I might have been the 50th person to slip on that board. On the day of my event, conditions worsened due to rain, making it even more hazardous.”

Upon returning home, Sreeshankar was seen limping and using a stick for support, indicating that his injury might be serious. His best jump of 8.06 meters came during his second attempt, securing him second place overall. The gold medal went to China’s Shi Yuhua, who achieved a jump of 8.17 meters, while Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov took bronze with a jump of 8.06 meters. Indian athlete David Solomon Patteraj finished seventh with a jump of 7.70 meters.
