Mumbai Indians Set 155-Run Target Against Delhi Capitals in WPL

Vadodara witnessed an exciting encounter in the 13th match of the Women’s Premier League as Mumbai Indians took on Delhi Capitals at the international cricket stadium. Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted a competitive total of 154 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues won the toss and chose to bowl first. Mumbai Indians had a shaky start with both openers dismissed early. Sajivan Sajna fell at 21 runs after scoring 9 off 9 balls. Soon after, Hailey Matthews was also dismissed for 12 runs, leaving Mumbai Indians reeling at 21 for 2 wickets.

At this crucial stage, Nat Saiver Brant and captain Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the innings with a valuable 78-run partnership for the third wicket. Harmanpreet contributed 41 runs off 33 balls, including 7 boundaries, before being dismissed at the team score of 99. Support from players like Nicola Carey and Amanjot Kaur followed, but it was Brant’s unbeaten 65 runs off 45 balls, featuring 2 sixes and 6 fours, that anchored the innings and enabled Mumbai Indians to reach a strong total.

Among the Delhi Capitals’ bowlers, left-arm spinner N Chara impressed with figures of 3 wickets for 33 runs in 4 overs. Marizhen Kapp stood out for her economical bowling, conceding just 8 runs and taking 1 wicket in her 4-over spell. Nandini Sharma also chipped in with 1 wicket for 36 runs.

With both teams vying to keep their playoff hopes alive, this match holds great significance. The second innings promises an intense contest between Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack and Delhi Capitals’ batting lineup, setting the stage for a thrilling finish.
