New Delhi, May 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his joy over the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) victory in the Falta Assembly seat in West Bengal. He congratulated newly elected MLA Debanshu Panda for his success in the elections.
In a post on the social media platform X, Modi stated that the people of Falta have made their decision known! This victory is a win for democracy and a defeat for threats. He extended heartfelt congratulations to Debanshu Panda for winning by a record margin, highlighting the unwavering faith of the people of West Bengal in the BJP. The public is witnessing the extraordinary work done by the West Bengal government across all sectors, which led them to bless us further.
He also praised BJP workers across West Bengal for their outstanding efforts, assuring that the party will continue to work for the state’s progress in the future.
Debanshu Panda, the BJP candidate for the Falta Assembly seat, was declared the winner by a significant margin of 109,021 votes, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) lost its deposit. Panda received a total of 149,666 votes, with CPI(M) candidate Shambhunath Kurmi coming in second with 40,645 votes.
Congress candidate Abdur Razzak secured third place with 10,084 votes, while TMC candidate Jahangir Khan finished fourth with 7,783 votes. Both Congress and TMC candidates lost their deposits.
The results of the re-election in Falta are unique in two respects. It marks the first time in history since the establishment of the TMC in January 1988 that a party candidate has finished in fourth place.
Since 2011, when the 34-year rule of the Left Front ended and the TMC came to power, this is the first instance where a party candidate has lost their deposit.
The re-election in Falta took place on May 21. With Panda’s victory, the BJP now holds a total of 208 seats in the West Bengal Assembly, which comprises 294 seats.
