MK Stalin Criticizes Center Over Controversial Delimitation Bill

Chennai, April 17: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has launched a fierce attack on the central government regarding the delimitation bill. In a post shared on the social media platform ‘X’, he stated that this is a “decisive moment” for Tamil Nadu’s politics, and today will reveal the outcome of their struggle against the delimitation process.

CM Stalin asserted that due to continuous protests and pressure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have verbally assured in Parliament that there will be no reduction in Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary seats. However, he questioned this assurance, suggesting that their words do not match their actions.

Stalin accused the proposed bill of being a calculated conspiracy that should be entirely rejected. He highlighted that the extensive powers granted to the delimitation commission are extremely dangerous, allowing for changes in state representation at any time and in any manner.

The Chief Minister warned the central government against hastily passing this bill, insisting it should be completely withdrawn. He cautioned that if the government attempts to force it through Parliament, there will be strong opposition in Tamil Nadu.

Referencing former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Stalin noted that Nehru had honored his promise against imposing Hindi, while the current central government talks about states’ rights but undermines them in practice.

He also demanded the re-implementation of safeguards similar to those established by former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which had previously halted delimitation through constitutional amendments.

CM Stalin emphasized that the BJP-led central government must listen to Tamil Nadu’s voice. He mentioned that he has written a detailed article in a newspaper explaining the dangers associated with delimitation.

Earlier, on Thursday, CM Stalin protested the bill by displaying black flags and urged all citizens of Tamil Nadu to do the same at their homes.
