Aizawl, February 14: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma expressed gratitude to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for the continuous support to the state. He noted that the central government has positively considered several proposals submitted by the state government.
The Chief Minister also highlighted ongoing discussions about adopting rigid pavement technology suitable for Mizoram’s heavy rainfall conditions.
Lalduhoma chaired a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in the Chief Minister’s conference room. The meeting reviewed the status of major highway projects being implemented by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the state Public Works Department. Discussions included ongoing works, completed sections, and challenges encountered during implementation.
The meeting revisited decisions made during a review held last September. Updates were also shared on highway improvement works across various districts and proposals awaiting approval from the central government.
An official from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) reported that the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of timely and proper repair work during the contractor liability period in a previous meeting with various agencies and organizations, including NHIDCL, the state PWD, and the electricity department.
He stressed that when new bypasses are constructed, existing roads passing through cities should be formally handed over to the state’s Public Works Department (PWD).
The Chief Minister proposed the use of rigid pavements for highway construction in Mizoram, citing heavy rainfall and prolonged monsoon seasons that accelerate road erosion.
Noting that Minister Gadkari has already instructed NHIDCL to examine his proposal, the Chief Minister urged relevant officials to expedite action on this matter.
