Kolkata, April 29: Voting has commenced today in the second phase of the Bengal elections, covering 142 seats across seven districts. Citizens, ministers, and MPs are all participating in the democratic process.
Among those casting their votes is actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty, who expressed confidence that a wave of change is coming to Bengal.
After voting, Chakraborty assured that the elections are being conducted fairly, with adequate security measures in place. “I believe the elections will proceed smoothly,” he stated. When asked about voter turnout, he remarked, “The crowd I see indicates that we will break the record of the first phase, with turnout possibly exceeding 90%. If that happens, it will signal a change, but I will refrain from making predictions until the results are announced, as it goes against the rules.”
Although Chakraborty is not contesting in this election, he is actively campaigning for the BJP. He previously announced that he would not be participating in the elections but would continue to support the party. The actor has been vocal against the TMC, recently stating in an interview that if the TMC returns to power, it would become difficult for him and other Hindus to remain in Bengal, forcing them to seek refuge elsewhere.
In his latest comments, Chakraborty accused the TMC of spreading misinformation. He dismissed allegations regarding a ban on fish and meat consumption in Bengal, clarifying that many states in the country allow these foods. He emphasized that the only restriction pertains to the sale and consumption of beef, which is prohibited in certain regions. “The TMC has no other strategy left and is resorting to misleading propaganda to confuse the public,” he added.
