
Lucknow, May 16: In the IPL 2026 match held at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Mitchell Marsh played a pivotal role in leading the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a 7-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Marsh’s explosive innings earned him the Player of the Match title.
After the match, Marsh expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It feels great to win. Such victories have been rare for us this season, so this is fulfilling.”
Commenting on his 135-run partnership with Jos Inglis for the first wicket off 70 balls, Marsh said, “It was a solid partnership. He eases the pressure off me.”
Although LSG has been eliminated from playoff contention, this win will boost the team’s confidence. Marsh praised his teammates, saying, “We have some great individuals in this group, including some talented youngsters whom I really like. Everyone is performing well, and I’m enjoying playing with these guys.”
Chasing a target of 188 runs, Marsh made the task seem easier with his explosive innings. The right-handed batsman scored 90 runs off just 38 balls, hitting 7 sixes and 9 fours. His partner, Josh Inglis, contributed 36 runs off 32 balls, while Nicholas Pooran and Mukul Chaudhary added 32 and 13 runs, respectively.
Earlier, CSK batted first after winning the toss, scoring 187 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Karthik Sharma was the standout performer for CSK, scoring 71 runs off 42 balls with 5 sixes and 6 fours. Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis chipped in with 32 and 25 runs, respectively.
For LSG, Akash Maharaj Singh was the star bowler, taking 3 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs.
Following this match, CSK dropped to sixth place in the standings, with 12 points from 12 matches, having won 6 and lost 6. LSG, now out of the playoff race, sits at the bottom of the table with this being their fourth win of the season.
