B.V. Narayan, Who Lost a Leg in an Accident, Embarks on World Tour from Bengaluru

Udaipur, 14 August (Kiran News) : B.V. Narayan, a 65-year-old resident of Bengaluru, is on a global motorcycle tour with the aim of raising awareness about Organ Donation and road safety. Through his journey, he hopes to inspire youth to follow traffic rules and prevent disabilities caused by road accidents.

B.V. Narayan

Narayan spent nearly 15 years in New Jersey, USA, working at petrol stations and as a handyman, plumber, and gardener. However, a turning point came after an accident in America, which brought him back to India in 2003.

Coming from a background where his father was a mechanical engineer, Narayan developed an early interest in machines. After returning to India, a friend requested him to help his son, who was unable to walk. In response, Narayan built a modified scooter for the child, which sparked the idea to develop specialised vehicles for differently-abled individuals.

He soon began designing and fabricating custom vehicles for the disabled. Although his work was well-received, the COVID-19 pandemic brought it to a halt. Due to his age, he struggled to find alternative employment.

While building vehicles for differently-abled people, Narayan observed that many young individuals lose their limbs in road accidents. He realised that beyond making vehicles for them, it is more important to prevent such disabilities in the first place. Motivated by this thought, he custom-built a bike for himself and set off on a world tour to promote awareness about organ donation and road safety.

So far, he has travelled to 89 countries, including Egypt, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Cameroon, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and several nations in Europe.

He began his journey from Bengaluru on 28 February and has passed through Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Delhi, and Bharatpur before reaching Udaipur on Wednesday night. At the Information Centre in Udaipur, he shared his plans to continue towards Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Alaska.

While addressing the youth at the Udaipur Information Centre, Narayan said, “Organ donation is a noble act. By encouraging people to donate organs, we can build a better society. India’s youth are its strength, but they are also the most affected by road accidents. This Independence Day, every young person should take a pledge to promote organ donation and follow traffic rules.”

Praise for Rajasthan’s Sensitivity
Narayan mentioned that during his journey through Rajasthan, he met several youths who praised the compassionate governance of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. In Bharatpur, he met District Collector Qamar Chaudhary and appreciated his dedication and sensitivity. Similarly, during a meeting with Udaipur Collector Namit Mehta on Wednesday evening, he received encouragement and support for his mission.
