Melbourne Police Issue Warning Following Arson and Shooting Incidents

Melbourne, April 17: The police in Melbourne, Australia, issued a warning on Friday urging residents to remain vigilant following a series of arson attacks and a drive-by shooting targeting hospitality venues.

The Victoria Police Force stated that detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad are investigating potential links and motives behind five arson incidents and one shooting that occurred in metropolitan Melbourne since Tuesday.

According to reports from the Xinhua news agency, two of the arson incidents took place in Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD), while the remaining three targeted locations in the inner-southern suburbs of the city.

The shooting incident occurred around 4:10 AM on Friday when shots were fired from a vehicle towards a venue in the CBD. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.

On April 1, a man was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot by police in Queensland. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) reported that officers arrived at a property in Arana Hills, approximately 12 kilometers northwest of central Brisbane, for a welfare check around 12:30 PM. They encountered an individual armed with a knife.

As the situation escalated, police fired at the man, who was subsequently given first aid at the scene before being transported to the hospital in serious condition. Local media reported that the individual was 19 years old, and police officers had deployed a Taser twice before the shooting. The incident will be investigated by the Ethical Standards and Anti-Corruption Department.

Earlier in March, police in New South Wales began searching for a man who shot another individual before stealing money and a car south of Sydney. Authorities reported that an unknown man entered a hotel, shot a 31-year-old man, threatened other customers, and stole cash.

The suspect then approached a parked vehicle in a nearby parking lot, brandished a gun to force a 17-year-old driver out, and used the car to flee the scene. The 31-year-old victim received treatment from ambulance paramedics at the scene and was later transported to the hospital in stable condition. Shortly after, police reported that the stolen vehicle was found burning on a main highway.
