Meghalaya to Host 39th National Games in 2027, CM Sangma Signs Agreement

New Delhi, May 30: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma marked a historic moment for the state and the entire Northeast by signing the host state agreement for the 39th National Games in 2027. He expressed confidence that Meghalaya is ready to host one of India’s largest multi-sport events. This occasion will showcase the region’s unity and sporting potential.

In a post on social media, Sangma described the agreement as a pivotal moment in Meghalaya’s sports journey. He emphasized that the National Games will be a collective celebration for the entire Northeast, allowing neighboring states to participate as hosts for events held in their regions.

He wrote on X, “With the signing of the host state agreement for the 39th National Games in 2027, a decisive moment has arrived in Meghalaya’s sports journey. This is an announcement of our readiness to host one of the country’s largest sporting events. It is more than just Meghalaya preparing to host the games; it is a collective moment for the entire Northeast. While Meghalaya will lead as the host state, our other Northeastern states will also gain hosting rights for events in their areas. This will make the 39th National Games a truly inclusive regional celebration of sporting excellence.”

Sangma added, “We are showcasing the strength, unity, and limitless potential of the Northeast together. We are ready to welcome sporting talents from across India and make history through sports.”

The President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), P.T. Usha, also welcomed this development. She expressed her honor in attending the signing ceremony of the host state agreement for the 39th National Games in Shillong.

She wrote on X, “It is my privilege to be in beautiful Shillong for the signing ceremony of the ‘Host State Agreement’ for the 39th National Games Meghalaya 2027. This will reaffirm our shared commitment to organizing games that inspire athletes, strengthen national unity, and build a sustainable sports legacy.”
