Mumbai, April 7: MediaTek is reportedly developing the Dimensity 9600 series of flagship chipsets. Recent reports indicate that the company may unveil its 2nm chips, the Dimensity 9600 and 9600 Pro, later this year. Today, tipster Digital Chat Station shared insights on Weibo regarding the performance enhancements expected from the D9600 series.
Performance Details of Dimensity 9600 Pro
According to DCS, the Dimensity 9600 and 9600 Pro are likely to feature a dual ultra-core CPU setup, representing a significant shift from previous models. The chip is anticipated to achieve peak clock speeds nearing 5GHz, positioning it in a new category for smartphone processors.
The architecture is expected to utilize a 2+3+3 core configuration, with two ultra-large cores handling performance-intensive tasks. This design could bring desktop-level processing capabilities to mobile devices. Additionally, the chipset is believed to be based on TSMC’s advanced N2P process, which may lead to a 25 to 30 percent reduction in power consumption, although this remains unverified, according to the tipster.
Earlier reports suggest that MediaTek may categorize the lineup into various tiers. The standard version could be based on an upgraded Dimensity 9500+, while the Pro and Pro Max variants are likely to adopt the newer 2nm-class architecture. This tiered strategy could enable brands to target different price segments while delivering flagship-level performance.
The Dimensity 9600 series is also expected to benefit from MediaTek’s advancements in AI chip development, including collaborations related to Google’s TPU platform. This could enhance on-device AI capabilities and improve power efficiency during real-world usage.
Leaks indicate that the Vivo X500 series and the Oppo Find X10 lineup may incorporate the Dimensity 9600 series, particularly in their Pro Max models. Meanwhile, Qualcomm’s competing Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series chipsets are expected to be reserved for select ultra-premium devices, setting the stage for an intriguing competition in the flagship market.
