New York : Minister of External Affairs Dr. S Jaishankar made a veiled attack on China and Pakistan over terrorism in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), saying that countries defending terrorists declared in the United Nations are neither considering their interests nor their reputation. He said that any remark, no matter what the motive, can never cover up blood stains.
Addressing a high-level session of the UN General Assembly, Jaishankar said India’s neighbors politicise the UNSC 1267 sanctions regime to the extent of defending designated terrorists. The External Affairs Minister said that India, which has been bearing the brunt of cross-border terrorism for decades, strongly advocates the approach of zero tolerance. He said that in India’s view, no act of terrorism can be justified at all.
Russia has backed India and Brazil as qualified candidates for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Russia has described both the countries as important international characters. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Saturday expressed support for India’s name for the membership of the Security Council at the 77th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Describing Russia as an important partner in many fields, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that his discussions with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov focused on bilateral cooperation as well as the Ukraine conflict. Jaishankar said that they discussed many issues. He said that part of his meeting with Lavrov was focused on bilateral cooperation, as Russia is India’s key partner in many areas. The External Affairs Minister gave this reply while interacting with Indian reporters in New York.
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met UN Security Council Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Saturday. During this meeting, global challenges including the Russia-Ukraine war were discussed. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that talks were held with Antonio Guterres on many issues. The External Affairs Minister is on a 10-day visit to the US.
Earlier he met Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Meki, Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Saudi Arabian counterpart Faisal bin Farhan and UN Development Program Administrator Achim Steiner. S Jaishankar had tweeted and informed that global challenges were discussed at length with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. Issues of Ukraine conflict, UN reforms, G20, climate action, food security and development were raised during the meeting.
