Mayank Yadav Shares Insights on Fast Bowling and His Bond with Jasprit Bumrah

New Delhi, March 24: Cricket fans are once again keeping a close eye on Mayank Yadav, the fast bowler for Lucknow Super Giants, in IPL 2026. Mayank has made a significant impact in previous seasons with his speed and skill. In a recent interview, he reflected on his childhood, his inspirations in fast bowling, and his relationship with Jasprit Bumrah.

During a show on JioStar, Mayank shared, “When I played in the streets, I didn’t know how to bowl spin. I was solely focused on fast bowling. My passion for fast bowling started in my childhood. My father showed me many videos of fast bowlers. I was particularly inspired by South African bowlers Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn, which ignited my passion for pace.”

He added, “Many people call me a ‘wonder kid’ with natural talent. It feels good to hear that. However, I wasn’t always a ‘wonder kid.’ I wouldn’t say I always had speed in my bowling. Fast bowling comes with its uncertainties. It’s a fine line, and it puts a lot of physical and mental pressure on you. When I first entered the IPL, our coach measured our bowling speed with a ‘speed gun.’ That was when I realized I had this talent; it’s a gift. Now, I must respect it.”

The young fast bowler has faced injury issues and even underwent surgery. He remarked, “Everything changed for me after the surgery. Previously, I never took care of myself. I used to avoid recovery sessions and ignored many things. But post-surgery, I have focused heavily on recovery, diet, and sleep.”

Currently, Jasprit Bumrah is regarded as the best fast bowler in the world. Reflecting on their relationship, Mayank said, “When I was rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bumrah Bhai was also there. We developed a strong bond. He is like a teacher to me. He had a similar surgery and faced the same situation.”

Mayank continued, “Bumrah Bhai shared his experiences on how to return after surgery and what to focus on. He explained how the body would feel during recovery and how it might react. Sometimes you’ll feel good, and sometimes you won’t. Whenever we talk on the phone or through messages, he shares his experiences as much as possible.”
