Maulana Sajid Rashidi Highlights Communal Harmony in West Bengals Cow Purchase Decision

New Delhi, May 21: Maulana Sajid Rashidi, President of the All India Imam Association, has described the decision by Muslims in West Bengal not to purchase cows as a message of communal harmony and respect for religious beliefs. He stated that Muslims have chosen not to buy cows, emphasizing that they honor the faith and the animal, which they regard as sacred.

In an exclusive interview with a news agency on Thursday, he remarked that if the Hindu community becomes truly aware and united, no one can prevent the cow from being declared the national animal. He criticized the misuse of faith, which he claims leads to riots in the name of religion. He pointed out that attacks on Muslims under the guise of faith and attempts to spread hatred in society negatively impact Hindu-Muslim relations.

Maulana Rashidi noted that many Hindu cattle breeders in Bengal are facing economic difficulties. He mentioned that these individuals have taken to the streets to express their concerns, stating that the inability to sell cows has halted their businesses, leaving them burdened with debt. He questioned why organizations like Bajrang Dal do not come forward to assist these individuals during such challenging times.

Regarding the controversial remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maulana Rashidi expressed concern over the declining standards of political discourse. He stated that terms like “jersey cow,” “traitor,” and “vote thief” are becoming part of political language, which is detrimental to both democracy and society.

He emphasized that he believes there is a noticeable decline in both the level and spirit of politics today. He recalled a time when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in opposition and Manmohan Singh was in power. He cited an instance where Javed Akhtar made a comment about the film industry, and Manmohan Singh suggested consulting Vajpayee first. This, he argued, exemplified true politics. However, he lamented that the current use of terms like “traitor” and “jersey cow” is completely unacceptable in politics and society, attributing this decline to the current state of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party.
