Washington: American singer and long-time admirer of India, Mary Milben, has expressed her views on recent comments made by US President Donald Trump. She emphasised the need to avoid unnecessary tensions with a friendly nation like India. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Milben urged him to keep moving forward and serve India’s best interests.
On Tuesday, Mary Milben took to the social media platform ‘X’ to share her thoughts. She wrote, “I know President Donald Trump sincerely respects Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but unfortunately, the President is receiving poor advice regarding his approach towards India. I am praying for him on this matter.”
Responding to criticism from India’s opposition, Milben said Prime Minister Modi does not need to respond to every statement or threat from President Trump. She added that Modi’s primary responsibility is to satisfy the Indian people and that he understands long-term diplomacy.
Milben further stated, “PM Modi does not need to pay attention to figures like Senator Lindsey Graham, who is irrelevant to many of us in America.”
She also pointed out the political context in the US, noting that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Putin, President Xi, and many world leaders know there are only 10 months left until the midterm elections in November. If the Democrats take control of Congress, which is likely as Republicans continue to announce retirements, a completely new global geopolitical dialogue will begin.”
Milben expressed hope that Donald Trump and the White House will focus on winning the midterm elections and avoid unnecessary tensions with friends like India.
Concluding her post, the American singer wrote, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, please keep moving forward. Continue working for India’s best interests. This is why you were chosen.”
This statement comes in the backdrop of President Trump’s recent remarks, where he renewed tariff threats and claimed that India reduced its oil purchases from Russia due to Washington’s displeasure. Following Trump’s statements, several Congress leaders in India have questioned the government’s stance.
