Manju Rani to take on Ekaterina Paltceva in summit clash of World Women’s Boxing Championships

Sixth-seeded Rani entered the final beating Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat 4-1 in her semifinal bout of 48-kilogram category at Ulan-Ude yesterday. Debutant Rani was the lone Indian to enter the final. Six-time champion MC Mary Kom, Jamuna Boro and Lovlina Borgohain settled for bronze medals.

Despite loss, it was a stupendous campaign for 36-year-old Mary Kom. This bronze is her first world medal in the 51kg category. This was also Mary Kom’s 8th medal overall at the World Boxing Championships, making her the most successful boxer of all times.
