New Delhi: Congress MP Manickam Tagore has criticized the BJP over the controversy surrounding new UGC regulations, alleging that the Ministry of Education is under the complete control of the RSS. He claimed that the University Grants Commission (UGC) is acting according to the RSS’s agenda.
Speaking to a news agency, Tagore said, “We all know the Education Ministry has completely failed. It has come under the full control of the RSS, and an important institution like the UGC has weakened over the past decade. The Modi government has handed over the education department entirely to the RSS, which is why the condition of the UGC is very poor.”
Responding to former Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed’s comments, Tagore remarked, “The RSS has been spreading hatred against minorities. To counter that hatred and promote love, affection, and brotherhood, Rahul Gandhi walked 4,000 kilometres. Before making such baseless statements about such a leader, Shakeel should at least think once.”
Shakeel Ahmed had earlier stated that he intended to vote for Shashi Tharoor for the Congress president position but ended up voting for Kharge because loyalists of Rahul and Sonia Gandhi were campaigning for Kharge. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi avoids meeting popular senior leaders due to insecurity and promotes individuals without a solid background.
On the announcement by Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) officials to ban non-Hindus from entering the Badrinath-Kedarnath shrine, Tagore called it a sensitive issue, especially in Uttarakhand. “Uttarakhand is considered the land of the gods, yet it has fallen under RSS influence. The RSS and its allied organisations have formed communal groups under different names. With elections approaching next year, a conspiracy seems to be in play between the BJP and RSS to maintain tension, disrupt communal harmony, and spread hatred in Uttarakhand,” he added.
