Kota, February 19: A man associated with the Karni Sena has been taken into police custody in Kota, Rajasthan. This follows the rapid circulation of a video on social media in which he threatens to kill Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Upon the video’s emergence, authorities acted swiftly and initiated an investigation. The Kota police apprehended a man named Raja Amera, who is accused of issuing death threats against Congress MPs and Rahul Gandhi in the video.
According to police reports, Raja Amera was detained for questioning after the video went viral. Following his arrest, he claimed to have no knowledge of the viral video and alleged that opposition parties had created a fake ID in his name to conspire against him.
Identifying himself as a ‘Sanatani Hindu,’ he expressed his desire to see India as a Hindu nation. Police stated that the video includes references to an incident involving Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, which is also under investigation.
Authorities acted promptly based on the video evidence and have begun questioning the suspect. In the video, Amera accused Om Birla of being mistreated by 25 opposition MPs, an act he deemed intolerable. He held Rahul Gandhi responsible for this alleged incident and warned that if it occurred again, there would be vandalism at the homes of the involved MPs, and he would shoot Rahul Gandhi at his residence. He even stated he was prepared to go to jail for making such threats.
The incident has intensified political rhetoric within the state. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra took to social media, stating that open death threats against Rahul Gandhi are being made. He condemned such threats as indicative of a toxic mindset, comparing it to the ideology that birthed Nathuram Godse. He also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of promoting extremism by labeling dissenters as anti-national, thereby fostering an environment conducive to violence.
