Kolkata: Following the Calcutta High Court‘s directive asking the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government to hand over border land to the Border Security Force (BSF), TMC leader Kunal Ghosh defended the state administration, stating that the government had already provided the required land to the BSF.
Speaking to the media, Kunal Ghosh said, “I will not comment on the High Court’s order. The land has already been handed over by the state government, and BSF is present throughout that area. There is no report suggesting otherwise. The BSF has jurisdiction over an area extending up to fifty kilometres from the border line.”
He further added, “If the land is under BSF’s jurisdiction, how do people cross the border and enter this side? This issue concerns BSF, not the state police. I cannot comment on the High Court’s order, but it appears the BSF is confused. We have already given them the land. This is being politicised, which is not correct for the country.”
Regarding the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Bengal, Kunal Ghosh remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president, and other senior leaders frequently visit Bengal during election times but disappear afterward. “Prime Minister Modi comes, reads from the teleprompter, and leaves. It has no impact here,” he said.
On the controversy surrounding the Special Investigation Report (SIR), Ghosh stated, “Some people are deliberately trying to mislead the public. Nothing will come out of it. The people know who is responsible for West Bengal’s development, so they will not trust the BJP.”
Addressing claims by the parents of the victims in the RG Kar rape and murder case about being offered entry into politics or election candidacy, Kunal Ghosh said, “Some individuals are falsely eliciting statements from them. Our party has not contacted them yet.”
