Kolkata, 6 December. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) observes the day of the controversial structure demolition every year as ‘Harmony Day’. On Saturday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a veiled warning against communal politics driven by vested interests, without naming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) directly.
In a social media statement released on Saturday, the Chief Minister said, “Our fight will continue against those who play the game of stirring communal fires to destroy the nation.”
She also appealed to the people to restore peace and the legacy of harmony in the state on this occasion.
In her social media post, the Chief Minister stated, “Unity is strength. First of all, I extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to everyone on the occasion of ‘Unity Day’ and ‘Harmony Day’. Bengal is the land of unity. This land belongs to Rabindranath, Nazrul, Ramakrishna, and Vivekananda. This land has never bowed to division and will not bow in the days to come.”
According to her, people of all religions including Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Christianity, Jainism, and Buddhism live shoulder to shoulder in West Bengal. “We share our joys. We believe religion belongs to individuals, but festivals belong to everyone,” she added.
On Saturday afternoon, the Trinamool Congress held its annual ‘Harmony Day’ event at Esplanade in central Kolkata. The party’s youth and student wings organised the event, which was attended by senior party leaders.
Meanwhile, in the same district, suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir from the Bharatpur constituency held a foundation stone laying ceremony for a Babri Masjid in Beldanga, Murshidabad district.
The proposed mosque in Beldanga will be modelled after the original structure in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
