Kolkata, April 25: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday after he enjoyed a boat ride on the Hooghly River. Speaking at an election rally in Howrah, Banerjee remarked that Modi could relish the experience because the water in Hooghly is clean, unlike the polluted Yamuna in Delhi.
She asserted that pollution prevents the Prime Minister from enjoying a boat ride on the Yamuna. According to Banerjee, it is commendable that Modi chose to boat on the Hooghly River, where the state government and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation have beautified the riverbanks.
“Compare the Ganges in Bengal to the Yamuna in Delhi. The Ganges here is clean. That’s why you went boating this morning to enjoy the cool breeze. This is merely political maneuvering during the elections, just an opportunity for a photo op. I challenge you: you went boating in the Ganges, and that’s fine; you are free to do so. I also go boating in the Ganges during the festival season. I visit Gangasagar too,” she stated.
Highlighting the pollution in the Yamuna, the Trinamool Congress leader said, “You should try taking a dip in the Yamuna in Delhi. It is completely polluted. You can’t even manage the Yamuna, yet you are boating in the Ganges in Bengal!”
Meanwhile, responding to PM Modi’s claims about women’s safety in Bengal, Banerjee said, “Look at how safe women are in the city and the state, while incidents of attacks on women occur daily in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and other BJP-ruled areas. Why do you forget about Hathras and Delhi? Please visit the burning Manipur. Why are you silent on Manipur?”
