Kolkata, April 24: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken to social media platform X to criticize the BJP. In her post, she questioned Prime Minister Modi’s description of the talented students from the prestigious Jadavpur University.
Banerjee wrote, “Dear Prime Minister, with great sadness, I must ask if this is your way of describing the brilliant students of Jadavpur University? Is this your understanding of decorum and civility? Your government has consistently ranked Jadavpur University at the top of the NIRF rankings, yet you have chosen to insult this ‘center of excellence.’ Have you sunk so low?”
She emphasized that the students of Jadavpur University have earned their place through merit. They graduate with degrees, intellectual capacity, and the courage to ask questions. “This is not chaos; this is education, and this is excellence,” she stated.
Banerjee further clarified that students raising their voices is not anarchy. True chaos, she argued, is using bulldozers as tools of power instead of justice. “Anarchy occurs when farmers die and their voices are silenced. It happens when those guilty of heinous crimes roam free due to political interests,” she added.
She defined anarchy as depriving the poor of their rights, dividing the nation on religious lines for votes, and refusing to face the press or be accountable. “Anarchy is denying the reality that Manipur is burning while you are busy with elections,” she remarked.
The Chief Minister concluded that student protests do not signify the breakdown of democracy; rather, they are a hallmark of a vibrant democracy. “Please do not tarnish the reputation of this academic institution, which was inspired by our early nationalists, including pioneers like Sri Aurobindo. Please do not defame Bengal,” she urged.
