Kolkata, April 26: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP and the Election Commission of India (ECI) of manipulating the ongoing assembly elections by misusing CRPF and police personnel.
While addressing an election rally on Camac Street in the Bhawanipur assembly constituency, Banerjee targeted the BJP, claiming they were using central forces to tamper with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and engage in “hooliganism.”
She stated, “They have deployed 200,000 police officers here. Yesterday, I heard about two incidents where criminals were wrapped in blankets and whisked away. They went to polling stations and seized EVM machines. Keep a close watch on areas where voting has already concluded.”
Criticizing the Election Commission, Banerjee remarked, “If anyone attempts to seize EVM machines, you need to be vigilant. Power should not be cut off. We do not experience power outages here. They plan to loot while wearing masks and blankets. Their intentions are questionable. Do not get caught up in this. Do not allow anyone else to get involved. They are using CRPF for their hooliganism.”
She also condemned the Election Commission, alleging that the state police were being used to favor the BJP.
Banerjee expressed her concerns about the local police, saying, “What more can I say about the police here? They have appointed individuals who think like the BJP. They are not taking action. Instead, they are acting against our party. After May 4, the Election Commission will have no control. You will remain here. We will treat you to sweets. We will take care of your families. Why will you work for the BJP? I do not even want you to work for the Trinamool Congress. You should work impartially for the people of the state. That is my request.”
Thanking the public, the Trinamool Congress leader said, “Stay happy and stay on the right path. Vote for us. We scored a century in the first phase, and we will do the same in the second phase. The BJP is scared. If you show fear, you will be finished. That is why central forces have been summoned. All the officers in charge have been changed. District Magistrates have been replaced. They are engaging in hooliganism.”
