Kolkata, April 2: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged on Thursday that the harassment of seven judicial officials in Malda’s Kaliachak is a result of a “joint conspiracy” by the BJP and the Election Commission. She claimed this plot aims to pave the way for the imposition of President’s Rule in the state.
While addressing a rally in Sagardighi, Murshidabad district, the Chief Minister stated, “It is the Election Commission’s duty to ensure the safety of judicial officials. Due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, I have no control over the administration, but I urge all of you not to be provoked. I know the complaints of those removed from the judicial process are genuine. However, if you trust me, do not get agitated. We must protect West Bengal. Do not forget that the BJP is behind the Malda incident, and they have the support of the Commission. Their sole aim is to disrupt the electoral process and impose President’s Rule in West Bengal.”
Without naming them, the Chief Minister hinted at the possible involvement of the Aam Aadmi Party and Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the incident.
She remarked, “On one side, someone has come from Hyderabad, and on the other, a traitor funded by the BJP has emerged. They have incited you to block roads and surround judges. What has been the outcome?”
Notably, Owaisi’s base is in Hyderabad, while Humayun Kabir was labeled a “traitor” after being suspended from the Trinamool Congress for forming his party, the AAP.
Banerjee continued, “If you do not want the BJP to seize power in West Bengal, maintain peace. The Malda incident has tarnished the image of West Bengal. The new Chief Secretary, appointed by the Election Commission to replace the previous one, has failed to manage the situation. I request you not to take the law into your own hands.”
