Born on March 6, 1966, in Dahanu, Maharashtra, Makrand developed a deep interest in acting from a young age. He began his journey in theater during his college years, which later became the foundation of his career.
Makrand made his Bollywood debut in 1988 with Aamir Khan’s film “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.” He subsequently played supporting roles in numerous films, leaving a lasting impression in titles like “Sarfarosh,” “Swades,” “Satya,” “Makdee,” “Darna Zaroori Hai,” and “Ghatak.”
Theater has always been a significant part of his life. He started his career at Prithvi Theatre in 1990 and founded the Ansh Theatre Group in 1993, alongside K.K. Menon. This group became a strong pillar in Mumbai’s theater scene. Makrand has written and directed over 50 short plays and more than 40 full-length dramas. His works, including “Sar Sar Sarla,” “Jok,” “Maa in Transit,” and “Piyakkad,” have gained immense popularity among audiences.
In addition to acting, Makrand has showcased his directorial talents, having directed five films, including “Daanav,” “Hanan,” “Shahrukh Bola Khoobsurat Hai Tu,” “Sona Spa,” and “Shanivar-Ravivar.” These films have been well-received by both audiences and critics alike.
Makrand has also made his mark in television and web series. He appeared in Shah Rukh Khan’s show “Circus” and has worked in popular TV shows like “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi” and “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai.” His performances in web series such as “Hundred,” “Shoorveer,” and “The Fame Game” have further showcased his acting prowess.
He has received several accolades, including the Best Negative Role award at the South Indian International Movie Awards and a nomination for a Filmfare Award for the Marathi film “Dagdi Chawl.”
