Chennai, May 4: The early trends from the counting of votes in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections reveal a significant upset. DMK leader and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is trailing in his stronghold, the Kolathur constituency, while actor Vijay’s party, TVK, appears to be gaining a robust lead.
After six rounds of counting in Kolathur, TVK candidate V.S. Babu leads with 24,993 votes, while Stalin follows with 20,982 votes. The AIADMK candidate is far behind with just 5,982 votes, and the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) has received 1,801 votes. This constituency has long been considered a DMK bastion, but a significant change is evident this time.
The TVK’s lead is not limited to just one seat. In the Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar constituency, after three rounds, the party is ahead with 5,142 votes, compared to DMK’s 3,182 and AIADMK‘s 1,409 votes.
TVK is also leading in several key Chennai constituencies, including Egmore, Anna Nagar, Villivakkam, and Thousand Lights, indicating a strong foothold in urban areas.
However, DMK has found some relief. Senior leader V. Senthil Balaji is leading in the Coimbatore South seat after two rounds. Meanwhile, AIADMK veteran S.P. Velumani is ahead in the Thondamuthur seat after six rounds.
In the Vriddhachalam seat, DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakant is trailing, which has dealt a blow to smaller parties.
Vijay himself is comfortably ahead in the Perambur seat after four rounds and in the Tiruchi East seat after three rounds, showcasing the party’s strong performance.
In a strategic move, TVK has booked a resort in Mahabalipuram to accommodate winning legislators, aiming to prevent any potential political maneuvering.
TVK’s national spokesperson, Felix Gerald, expressed confidence that the party will secure a full majority and form the government. He stated that the public is disillusioned with traditional parties and now views TVK as a strong alternative.
As the counting progresses, it is becoming increasingly clear that a major shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape is possible, with TVK emerging as a formidable challenger.
