Hyderabad, September 3: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy took decisive action on Thursday, dismissing Forest, Environment, and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha from the cabinet due to disciplinary issues. The Chief Minister’s office has also sent a recommendation regarding this to the Governor.
In a related move, the appointment of Dr. G. Chinna Reddy as Vice Chairman of the Telangana Planning Board has been revoked immediately. Gadwal Vijayalakshmi has been appointed as the new Vice Chairman in his place.
Additionally, Narela Sharda has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Telangana State Women’s Commission, while former Rajya Sabha member G. Sudha Rani will lead the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA). The government has issued orders related to these appointments.
The actions against Konda Surekha and Chinna Reddy followed recommendations from the Congress state disciplinary committee. The party leadership deemed the allegations of indiscipline against both individuals serious enough to warrant strict measures.
Konda Surekha found herself embroiled in controversy after her daughter, Sushmita, made statements against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. She had also objected to the show-cause notice issued to her, arguing that she should not be held accountable for her daughter’s personal views.
This decision came after a crucial meeting involving Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi. Continuous discussions with the state Congress leadership had been ongoing for the past three days.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Konda Surekha, and state Congress President Mahesh Kumar Goud met separately with party President Mallikarjun Kharge. Surekha also presented her case to Congress Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan.
Before the action was taken, Konda Surekha stated that she belongs to a backward class and should not be treated differently. She claimed that other ministers in the government faced serious allegations, yet no action was taken against them. Furthermore, she asserted that her performance as a minister had been commendable and that there were no corruption charges against her.
