Lucknow, May 18: In a significant cabinet meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, several crucial proposals related to infrastructure, healthcare, energy, urban transport, and reservation for backward classes were approved. The government has made substantial decisions aimed at strengthening electricity supply in Purvanchal, expanding medical facilities, and improving traffic management in metropolitan areas.
The cabinet’s decisions are considered pivotal for the state’s development and investment in the coming years. Approval was granted for the establishment of a 765/400 kV power substation and associated transmission lines in Mirzapur. This project, costing approximately ₹2,799.47 crores, will enhance the evacuation and supply of electricity generated in the state.
According to the government, this will provide better and uninterrupted power supply to domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers, thereby promoting industrial activities and creating job opportunities. The cabinet also approved the construction of a state-of-the-art emergency medical center, teaching building, and outpatient department (OPD) building at the new campus of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences on Shaheed Path. This project, with an estimated cost of around ₹855 crores, will offer advanced medical facilities to patients from the capital and surrounding districts.
Additionally, the initiative aims to strengthen medical education and training systems. The government believes that the expansion of the hospital was necessary due to the continuously increasing number of patients. This will provide better treatment facilities for residents of several districts in the Prayagraj division. Proposals related to metro projects in Agra and Lucknow were also approved during the meeting. In Agra, land transfer for the construction of a metro station and elevated corridor for the second corridor was sanctioned.
In Lucknow, an agreement was reached between the central government, state government, and Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation for the construction of an east-west corridor from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj. The estimated cost of this project is around ₹5,801 crores.
The meeting also decided to increase the training stipend for veterinary students. The government stated that this will provide financial support to students and help develop skilled human resources in veterinary services.
Furthermore, the formation of the ‘Uttar Pradesh State Dedicated Backward Classes Commission for Local Rural Bodies’ was approved to determine reservation for backward classes in the three-tier panchayat elections. The commission will study the representation of backward classes in panchayats and provide recommendations regarding reservations. It will consist of five members, including a retired High Court judge as the chairperson. In a significant decision for higher education, the government also approved the issuance of a letter of intent for the establishment of “Sardar Patel Apex University” in Mirzapur district, which will be located in the village of Samsapur in the Chunar tehsil.
