Major Drug Network Busted in Pune, Eight Arrested

Pune, May 10: The Wagholi police station in Pune has uncovered a significant drug network involving MD (Mephedrone). This gang was not only supplying drugs within the city and surrounding areas but was also preparing to establish a factory for MD drugs in rural regions. The police have seized materials valued at approximately ₹1.16 crore.

On the night of April 16, around 8 PM, police apprehended two suspects in the Kesnand area with 5 grams of MD drugs, worth about ₹1.10 lakh. A total of five individuals have been charged under the NDPS Act in this case.

Investigations revealed that the main orchestrator of this racket is Sumit Ashok Ghule. He was allegedly supplying MD drugs illegally to Pune city, Lonikand, Koregaon Bhima, Shikrapur, Karegaon, Ranjangaon, and Shirur rural areas through his associates.

Further inquiries indicated that this gang was planning to set up a factory for manufacturing MD drugs in rural areas. They were reportedly seeking assistance from a previously arrested individual who had been out on bail and was involved in prior drug manufacturing cases.

Based on confidential information and technical analysis, police arrested the main accused, Sumit Ghule, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Subsequently, his accomplices were captured from various locations, including Akash Ashok Dhawle, Ramnivas Bishnoi, and others, from whom a substantial quantity of MD drugs was recovered.

To date, police have seized a total of 225 grams of MD drugs, valued at around ₹45.60 lakh, along with several luxury vehicles, including a BMW. Eight suspects have been arrested, leading to the dismantling of this entire network. Authorities state that investigations into other links of this gang are ongoing, and further significant revelations may emerge.
