Patna, May 1: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, police in Gopalganj district, Bihar, have arrested a man and a woman. Approximately 95 grams of heroin were seized from their possession.
The arrests occurred during a routine vehicle inspection under the jurisdiction of the Manjhgadh police station.
The incident took place near the Bahorhata Bridge on Thursday night, where police were conducting a vehicle check campaign.
During the operation, a man and a woman riding a black Apache motorcycle became nervous upon seeing the police and attempted to flee.
The police swiftly pursued them and apprehended both individuals.
Upon searching their belongings, officers discovered 135 small packets of heroin concealed in a bag, totaling around 95 grams.
The arrested individuals have been identified as 43-year-old Harkesh Singh from Karsghat under the Mohammadpur police station and Roshan Tara from Sarya, Ward No. 2, under the Nagar police station. Both are residents of Gopalganj district.
In addition to the drugs, police also confiscated a mobile phone and some cash from them.
A formal seizure list was prepared on-site, and the families of the accused were notified following their arrest.
During questioning, the suspects failed to provide satisfactory explanations, raising suspicions about their involvement in a larger drug trafficking network.
Investigators are now working to identify other individuals connected to the supply chain.
Rajesh Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of the Sidhiwalya range, reported on Friday that the suspects were apprehended under suspicious circumstances during a routine check.
Kumar stated that the immediate recovery of several packets of smack led to their prompt arrest.
He further mentioned that an FIR has been filed under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Manjhgadh police station.
Ongoing investigations aim to gather comprehensive information about the network and bring additional suspects to justice.
