Major Drug Bust at Amritsar Airport: Passenger Arrested with 6.27 kg of Cannabis

Amritsar, April 17: The Customs Department achieved a significant success at Amritsar Airport in Punjab. An international passenger was arrested after a large quantity of narcotics was seized at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport.

According to reports, Customs officials conducted the operation based on profiling from the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) and intelligence received from the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC). The suspect arrived in Amritsar on flight TR 750, traveling from Bangkok to Singapore. Due to prior alerts, the passenger’s activities were monitored upon landing, and he was stopped for inspection after profiling.

A thorough search by Customs officials revealed 6,270 grams of cannabis cleverly concealed within the passenger’s belongings. The estimated value of the seized narcotics in the international market is approximately ₹6.27 crores.

Following the operation, the accused was taken into custody, and a case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the law. Initial investigations suggest that the suspect may be linked to an international drug trafficking ring. Investigative agencies are now delving deeper into this network to identify and bring to justice any accomplices involved.

This operation is being hailed as a major victory in the fight against drug trafficking. Officials have stated that surveillance and intelligence mechanisms at airports across the country are being strengthened to curb such illegal activities.
