Amritsar, September 3: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has launched a significant operation against an illegal arms supply network, resulting in the arrest of two suspects. Authorities seized eight illegal .30 caliber pistols and 103 live cartridges from the accused.
Police Commissioner Harmanbir Singh Gill identified the arrested individuals as ‘Cheetah’ and ‘Gora’. Based on their interrogation, the police expect to uncover crucial links within the arms supply network.
The Commissioner revealed that initial questioning indicated the suspects had supplied weapons to various states, including Rajasthan and Haryana. The police are now focused on identifying individuals who previously received arms from these suspects. Multiple teams have been dispatched to different locations for covert investigations and operations.
The primary goal of the police is not just to recover weapons but to dismantle the entire network that delivers these arms to criminals. There is a significant concern that such weapons may be used in targeted killings, shootouts, and other criminal activities. The Commissioner stated that further arrests related to the network are anticipated soon.
Investigations have also revealed that shipments of arms were allegedly delivered to Punjab from Pakistan via drones. Following the initial recovery of weapons in the Islamabad region, inquiries have intensified. The police are now working to determine how contacts between smugglers in Pakistan and the active network in India were established.
According to police reports, the interrogation has unveiled connections of the suspects to foreign contacts and the arms supply network. It is alleged that while driving trucks abroad, the suspects came into contact with individuals who facilitated their involvement in the arms trafficking network.
The Commissioner emphasized that both backward and forward links in this case are being thoroughly investigated. The police aim to trace the origins of the recovered weapons, identify the recipients, and determine the intended criminal activities for which they were meant.
He added that police teams are fully active, and further arrests of individuals connected to this network, along with additional weapon recoveries, are likely in the coming days.
