Sopore, May 11: In a significant achievement under the “100-Day Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir Campaign,” Sopore police have successfully apprehended five drug traffickers in three separate operations. Substantial quantities of narcotics were seized during these actions.
In the first operation, police at the Warpora post set up a checkpoint at Janwara Crossing. During the inspection, two individuals coming from Janwara attempted to flee upon seeing the police but were apprehended. A search revealed that they were in possession of ‘Alprazolam’ tablets.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Faisal Majid Mir from Janwara and Nasir Ahmed Lone from Hathlangu. An FIR has been registered at Sopore police station under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing.
In the second operation, another checkpoint was established at Malpora Crossing by the Warpora police. Similar to the first incident, two suspicious individuals coming from Janwara tried to escape upon noticing the police but were caught. They were also found with ‘Alprazolam’ tablets. An FIR has been filed at Sopore police station under the NDPS Act, and an investigation has commenced.
The third operation involved a patrol by the police post at the bus stand jurisdiction, where a suspicious individual was stopped and arrested in Shalimar Colony, Sopore. Upon searching him, ‘Codeine Phosphate’ was found in his possession and seized according to legal procedures.
The arrested individual has been identified as Umar Javed Tugu from Noorbagh (Sopore). A case has been registered at Sopore police station under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are underway to uncover the sources and broader networks involved.
Sopore police have stated that strict actions against drug traffickers will continue throughout the district, and all individuals involved in drug trafficking will be dealt with firmly under the law.
