New Delhi, February 19: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra approached the High Court on Thursday seeking interim custody of her pet Rottweiler named Henry. The court is set to hear the case on April 29.
The hearing took place before Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri’s bench. Justice Ohri issued a notice to lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai regarding Moitra’s petition and requested a response. During the proceedings, Dehadrai appeared before the High Court himself.
In her petition, Moitra argued that the trial court did not properly consider the facts and dismissed her case without hearing the full context. She contended that a decision should have been made only after a complete hearing.
Moitra stated that Henry was given to her as a pet to be loved and cared for, primarily residing at her home. However, when she was away for work in her parliamentary constituency, Henry stayed with Jai Anant Dehadrai.
The petition also noted that the trial court’s order did not establish that Dehadrai is the actual owner of the dog. It emphasized that ownership should not be assumed solely based on payment.
Moitra claims that she made the payments for the dog, a point that has not been disputed. The High Court is expected to conduct a detailed hearing on this matter on April 29.
Meanwhile, Dehadrai asserts that Henry should remain with him. He claims that Moitra “kidnapped” Henry, while Moitra insists that she is merely trying to reclaim her pet.
It is worth noting that Moitra’s request for interim custody of Henry for ten days each month was rejected by Saket Court on November 10 of last year, prompting her to appeal to the High Court.
