Mahua Maji Warns: Numbers Do Not Always Guarantee Victory Ahead of Rajya Sabha Elections

Ranchi, June 8: Political activities are intensifying in Jharkhand as the Rajya Sabha elections approach. Mahua Maji, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), emphasized the need for party discipline and integrity during the electoral process. She noted that there have been numerous instances in Jharkhand’s political history where, despite favorable numbers for a candidate, the outcomes were unexpected.

Maji cited the previous Rajya Sabha elections, where the JMM nominated Basant Soren, who was widely expected to win. However, Mahesh Poddar emerged victorious despite lacking the numbers. She stated that such occurrences have been seen before in state politics, urging all parties and legislators to adhere strictly to coalition and party leadership directives.

Maji asserted that it is the responsibility of all members to follow any guidelines issued by the India Alliance and its associated parties. She made it clear that whether it is the JMM or Congress, elected representatives must respect the leadership’s decisions. Any member acting contrary to the party line is referred to as engaging in ‘horse trading’ in political terms.

In response to the NEET paper leak case, she questioned the functioning of the central government and the agencies conducting the examinations. Maji pointed out that there appears to be serious negligence at the government level. If agencies with a history of controversies are still entrusted with significant examinations, it naturally raises doubts. She also expressed concerns about possible collusion in this matter.

Maji demanded a fair and thorough investigation into the NEET paper leak case to identify the culprits and take stringent action against them.

Furthermore, she criticized the BJP for focusing solely on winning elections and gaining political advantages. Maji stated that the BJP emphasizes the politics of swaying opposition MPs and legislators while neglecting serious issues concerning students and youth. She urged the government to learn from the nationwide protests by students regarding the NEET exam and to take immediate effective measures to ensure transparency in the education system.

Maji warned that if the government does not act promptly and take students’ concerns seriously, widespread dissatisfaction and a major crisis in the education system could arise in the future.
