Maharashtra Congress President Demands Resignation of Election Chief Over Serious Allegations

Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal calls for the resignation of Election Chief Gyanesh Kumar amid allegations of voter list irregularities.

Mumbai, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal has leveled serious accusations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, demanding his resignation. He also called for clear answers from the Election Commission regarding irregularities in the voter list and changes to regulations, suggesting that a case of treason should be filed against Kumar.

During a recent meeting of the India coalition, Sapkal emphasized the ongoing efforts to challenge the government. He stated, “The core issue with the Election Commission is the irregularities they have committed recently. Gyanesh Kumar should resign. We want to know why the rules were changed and demand clarity on this matter.”

Sapkal further criticized the decision to grant a private company full access to the voter list, claiming it increases their control and puts sensitive data in foreign hands. He argued that such actions warrant serious allegations of treason against Kumar. He expressed concern over the rampant corruption, stating, “The arrogance of those in power is evident: ‘Throw money, watch the spectacle.’ But the voters will respond decisively.”

In response to another question, he condemned the Maharashtra government’s inaction regarding the Supreme Court’s recent decisions, labeling it as shameless and negligent. He remarked, “It is utterly disgraceful. Even if the government announces a one-lakh-rupee payout and full loan waivers today, the public understands the reality.”

Sapkal asserted that there is a direct competition between the Maha Vikas Aghadi and the BJP across the state. He expressed confidence in their performance, predicting significant victories in the upcoming elections.

Addressing Prime Minister Modi’s statement about “trying to erase India,” Sapkal urged the PM to account for his promises made twelve years ago, questioning how many have been fulfilled. He accused the government of adopting a repressive attitude and attempting to stifle dissent.

He also highlighted the ongoing public movement regarding the SIR, affirming the need to continue fighting for principles like “Of the People, By the People, For the People” and “One Man, One Vote, One Value.”

Regarding Sonia Gandhi’s new book, he affirmed her leadership and resilience against baseless accusations. He praised her contributions as a significant figure in the country’s progress and development. He recalled how, in 2004, she declined the Prime Minister’s position, listening to her conscience. He noted that Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and their family have also faced numerous challenges, with their journey soon to be shared in her inspiring book.
