Mahana set to be elected speaker unopposed

Lucknow, March 28 : Senior BJP MLA and former Industrial Development Minister Satish Mahana on Monday filed nomination for the post of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker. He is set to be elected unopposed and a formal announcement will be made regarding this on Tuesday at 3 pm. Mahana filed his nomination in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya, Brajesh Pathak, cabinet ministers Surya Pratap Shahi, Suresh Kumar Khanna and Dr Sanjay Nishad along with a number of BJP MLAs and MLCs. The Assembly’s Information Officer Karmesh Pratap Singh said that all the leaders of the opposition parties have proposed the name of Mahana as the Speaker. The opposition leaders included Samajwadi Legislature Party (SLP) Leader Akhilesh Yadav, Congress LP leader Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ and Jansatta Dal (Loktantrik) Leader Raghuraj Pratap Singh ‘Raja Bhaiyya’.
