Khargone, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Madhya Pradesh police have made a remarkable seizure in Khargone district, confiscating approximately 60 quintals of illegally grown cannabis worth around ₹3 crore. This operation is one of the largest of its kind in the area.
Under the initiative named ‘Operation Prahar’, police targeted two locations in the villages of Jamli and Phaliya. To navigate remote areas lacking mobile network connectivity, the teams utilized drones to search the fields.
In total, authorities recovered 15,191 cannabis plants, weighing 5,974 kilograms (59.74 quintals), from both sites. Police teams traversed rivers, hilly terrains, and difficult paths to access the fields. Drones played a crucial role in identifying and locating cannabis in hard-to-reach areas.
A police officer explained that drone surveillance was instrumental in the field searches, allowing teams to reach these locations effectively. In Jamli, police seized 9,391 cannabis plants weighing 3,765 kilograms, with an estimated value of ₹1.88 crore. From Phaliya, they recovered 5,800 plants weighing 2,209 kilograms, valued at ₹1.10 crore.
Cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and investigations are ongoing. The operation in Khargone is part of a five-day statewide campaign against illegal cultivation, transportation, and trafficking of narcotics.
During this campaign, police across several districts seized narcotics and assets worth over ₹3.91 crore. In Indore, two operations conducted within 24 hours resulted in the recovery of 65 grams of narcotics, including brown sugar, through the efforts of local police and the crime branch.
In another instance, Narasinghpur police confiscated 60.04 grams of smack and arrested two alleged traffickers, along with seizing a motorcycle used for trafficking. In Gwalior, authorities arrested two individuals and seized 13.128 kilograms of cannabis, which was reportedly brought from Odisha for sale in Dabra.
Another police official confirmed that actions against illegal cultivation, transportation, and trafficking of narcotics are ongoing throughout Madhya Pradesh. Police in Panna, Damoh, and Shivpuri have also reported separate operations during the five-day campaign, resulting in cannabis seizures and arrests.
