Bhopal, May 12: The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, announced on Tuesday that the number of vehicles in his convoy will be minimized until further notice, and there will be no vehicle rallies during his tours. This decision comes in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public appeal for fuel saving.
Yadav has urged his cabinet ministers, leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and party workers to adopt similar measures.
In a post on X, he stated that Madhya Pradesh is committed to reducing petrol and diesel consumption in the national interest, following Prime Minister Modi’s call.
He emphasized that, in line with this initiative, his convoy will maintain a minimal number of vehicles, and all ministers will also use fewer vehicles during their travels.
Additionally, newly appointed officials of corporations and boards will assume their roles with simplicity.
Yadav appealed to the public to adopt public transport, stressing that national interest is paramount.
This announcement came just hours after the newly appointed chairman of the textbook corporation, Saubhagya Singh Thakur, arrived in Ujjain with a convoy of over 200 vehicles. This incident drew criticism as it sent a contradictory message at a time when both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister are advocating for restraint in fuel usage.
Following Yadav’s directive, ministers and party officials are now responsible for reducing convoy sizes and adopting simpler travel methods.
During a cabinet meeting on Monday, Yadav mentioned that Prime Minister Modi has encouraged farmers to use solar-powered pumps instead of diesel pumps and to adopt natural farming to reduce fertilizer imports.
He also urged citizens to utilize trains more for goods transportation, considering the current global scenario.
Furthermore, he encouraged citizens to use public transport or electric vehicles, postpone foreign travel for at least a year, explore domestic tourist destinations, refrain from purchasing gold for a year, and reduce the consumption of cooking oil at home.
