Bhopal, February 16: Governor Mangubhai Patel announced on Monday that Madhya Pradesh is on a path of development and progress. The state is taking steps to achieve its goal of becoming a $2 trillion economy by the year 2047.
The budget session of the state assembly commenced on Monday. During his address, Governor Patel highlighted that the assembly session held on December 17, 2025, focused on making Madhya Pradesh a developed, self-reliant, and prosperous state. The session lasted for 12 hours, emphasizing the responsibilities of the members and their commitment to strengthening democracy.
Governor Patel noted that this period is significant, referred to as ‘Amrit Kaal’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this time, the state government has laid a solid foundation for long-term and comprehensive development, culminating in the Vision Document for a prosperous Madhya Pradesh by 2047. This document is not merely a policy statement; it represents a collective resolve born from the participation, suggestions, and aspirations of the people of the state.
To achieve this goal, the state has committed to strengthening its economy and aims to increase its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) to over ₹250 lakh crore, positioning Madhya Pradesh as a key player in national development. The governor mentioned that the state government has declared 2025 as the Year of Industrial Employment. Significant achievements in industrial investment, job creation, and economic growth have been recorded this year. The government organized the Global Investors Summit, Regional Industry Conclave, national and international roadshows in 2025, attracting investment proposals worth ₹11 lakh crore, which could create new job opportunities in the state.
In his address, the governor emphasized that the state government is reinforcing the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) sector to realize the $2 trillion economy goal by 2047. The continuous expansion of the MSME ecosystem is being facilitated through investment-friendly policies and a robust industrial framework.
Addressing the issue of Naxalism, Governor Patel stated that left-wing extremism has posed a long-term challenge to the country’s internal security. Some districts in Madhya Pradesh have been affected by this issue for the past 35 years. The government has achieved a historic milestone by completely eradicating Naxalism by December 2025, thanks to strong political will, effective strategy, and coordinated efforts of the Madhya Pradesh police and central security forces.
The governor reiterated that internal security is a top priority, and a zero-tolerance policy is in place. To maintain public safety and social harmony, the government is regulating the uncontrolled use of loudspeakers at religious sites. Vigilance during festivals, protests, and other events has ensured communal harmony, with no major untoward incidents reported.
Regarding initiatives for farmers, Governor Patel announced that 2026 will be celebrated as the Year of Farmer Welfare under the inclusive theme of ‘Prosperous Farmers, Prosperous State.’ A three-year action plan will be implemented to promote overall development in agriculture and related sectors, create jobs, and increase farmers’ income.
He also mentioned the effective implementation of the National Mission on Natural Farming to promote natural agriculture. To ensure timely and transparent supply of fertilizers, the government has introduced e-development. The aim is to transform animal husbandry from merely a means of livelihood to a foundation for economic prosperity, with innovative schemes launched to double milk production in the state.
Governor Patel highlighted the Water Ganga Conservation Campaign and the construction of Amrit Sarovars, resulting in the creation of over 86,000 ponds, which have ensured farmers’ self-reliance. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, over 99% of villages in the state have been declared ODF Plus, showcasing the government’s commitment to cleanliness.
